This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Maksym Laiko, an IT Specialist whose curiosity, quick thinking, and love for problem-solving keep our systems (and our spirits) running smoothly.
Professional Journey
Maksym’s journey into technology began with curiosity and hands-on learning. Before joining Sure Systems, his first full-time professional role, he completed several internships, supporting IP phone and IPTV service providers, and also tutored and examined students in Microsoft applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at George Brown College. Those early experiences gave him a strong technical foundation and a knack for helping others, both of which he brings to his work every day.
Role at Sure Systems
When asked what he does, Maksym puts it simply: “I do computers.”
Behind that modest description lies a broad and vital role; troubleshooting issues, supporting systems, and solving puzzles large and small. No two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly what keeps him energized and engaged.
What He Loves About His Role
For Maksym, the best part of his job is the variety of challenges and environments he gets to work in. Each task is like solving a puzzle, something that sparks his curiosity and love for finding creative solutions.
Getting to Know Maksym
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
First, I wanted to be a Ninja Turtle, then a surgeon. I even practiced on frogs (don’t worry, they were fine!).
What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Puzzles and board games are at the top of my list. I also enjoy graphic and photo editing, a creative outlet I hope to get back to when time allows.
Who do you admire most in your life?
My parents, and especially my late grandfather, whose influence and guidance helped shape who I am today.
Can you share something unique that has happened in your life?
Becoming a dad. I proudly call my two kids “little buggers” who make life more complicated — but absolutely worth it.
Who is your favorite superhero?
Iron Man.
What is your favorite book?
Fantasy favorites like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and The Witcher.
What is your favorite movie?
Gladiator starring Russell Crowe.
Where is your favorite place to visit?
Home; Kiev, where my heart always feels most at peace.
What is your favorite binge-worthy TV series?
Scrubs.
